One of film history’s great satirists, Pietro Germi (1914–1974) will be remembered in the Dryden as we screen two new 35mm prints of his best-known films, each a corrosive indictment of hypocritical life in contemporary Sicily.

Marcello Mastroianni stars as a man who plots to kill his wife after he falls in love with his cousin (Stefania Sandrelli) in the classic Divorce—Italian Style (screening March 7). Then, Sandrelli returns in Seduced and Abandoned (March 14) as a girl whose frantic father stops at nothing to restore his family’s honor after she loses her virginity.

“[Germi’s] ferocious, cold-blooded, intricate, and hilarious pictures also turn out to be unexpectedly gorgeous” —Stuart Klawans, The New York Times.
