Herzog’s informative and eye-opening spiritual travelogue documents a succession of Buddhist rituals, culminating in the world’s largest gathering of Buddhists in Bodh Gaya, India. Many of the Himalayan devotees who gather have endured punishing pilgrimages, some of which take more than three years to complete. The Dalai Lama, who addresses the crowd in Bodh Gaya, personally commissioned Herzog to direct this project.
