South Korea 2005, 112 min.
Korean with subtitles, 35mm
A beautiful but tough-as-nails woman, Lee Geum-ja is imprisoned for 13 years for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a young boy. While in jail, Geum-ja sets about befriending her cellmates in order to use them in an elaborate revenge plot against the former mentor who put her behind bars. At once sympathetic and repulsive, Geum-ja is a new kind of movie heroine-she makes Uma Thurman’s Kill Bill character look downright meek! The conclusion of Park’s “Vengeance Trilogy” does not disappoint.
