Unassuming Toronto bank clerk Miles (Elliott Gould) anticipates a holdup and cleverly hides a large portion of the money in his safe deposit box. When the sadistic thief (Christopher Plummer) realizes he’s made off with only a fraction of the loot and all of the blame, a deadly cat-and-mouse game ensues. This tense and classy thriller features a script by Curtis Hanson, a supporting cast including Susannah York and John Candy, and a fine jazz score by the late, great Oscar Peterson. Preceded by the animated BEGONE DULL CARE (Norman McLaren, Canada 1949, 8 min.).
