(TIREZ SUR LE PIANISTE, François Truffaut, France 1960, 81 min.)
For his film most indicative of the daring, original nouvelle vague style, Truffaut adapted a crime novel by American David Goodis. French singer Charles Aznavour plays Charlie Kohler, a one-time world-renowned concert pianist, now down and out, playing in a Parisian dive. As a caring waitress tries to revive Charlie’s career, his older brother stumbles into the bar, on the run from gangsters he has double-crossed.
