Odd Man Out

(Carol Reed, UK 1947, 116 min.)

IRA soldier and escaped convict Johnny McQueen (James Mason) is shot in a failed robbery. Given shelter by some and spurned by others, Johnny tries desperately to stay alive and avoid the ubiquitous Belfast police, who mercilessly stalk our hero around every corner. Director Reed delivers a moody thriller that’s in the same league as his later masterwork The Third Man. Click here to read more about the Brit Noir film series.
