Another Woman

(UNE AUTRE FEMME, Jérôme Foulon, France 2002, 106 min., French with subtitles, Video)

Ten years ago, while in Paris living as a man, Lea (then Nicholas) abandoned her wife, children, and career as a doctor, in search of herself and a new life. Returning to Paris on a business trip, Lea poses as a journalist in hopes of catching a glimpse of the family and life she left behind. Guilt won’t let her keep up the charade for very long, but revealing her true identity may destroy the family she so desperately wants to salvage. Another Woman is a thoughtful and emotionally charged drama that invites us to re-evaluate our ideas about identity and family, and leaves us to try and decide: Just how much are we willing to sacrifice to be ourselves?
