Evil Dead 2 and Return of the Living Dead

Saturday, October 27th, 8:00 pm

Evil Dead 2

(Sam Raimi, US, 1987, 85 min., 35mm)

Part remake, part sequel, this cult classic introduced “groovy” to the horror lexicon and firmly established Bruce Campbell as an underground star. Raimi adds comedy and Three Stooges-style slapstick to the buckets of gore for his tale of unlucky lovers who meet demons in the woods. It’s even more fun to see Campbell’s Ash get pummeled and splattered this time around.

Then at 9:30 pm:

Return of the Living Dead

(Dan O’Bannon, US, 1985, 91 min., 35mm)

A bunch of innocent young punks just looking for a place to party are interrupted by flesh-eating zombies in this classic horror comedy, filled with ’80s music and costumes. Playing on the then-common concern about acid rain, toxic chemicals released into the air create a legion of re-animated dead hungry and moaning for brains. Two films for one admission price.
