(John Cassavetes, US 1963, 102 min.)
Judy Garland stars as a woman who works at a home for mentally handicapped children run by a progressive doctor (Burt Lancaster). Producer Stanley Kramer and Cassavetes had a notorious falling-out during post-production of Cassavetes’ second studio feature. Nonetheless, it is a heartfelt and honest look at a sensitive subject, highlighted by a terrific supporting performance from Gena Rowlands.
