The Senator Was Indiscreet

(George S. Kaufman, US 1948, 82 min.)

Politics and Popcorn. Dedicated to “every politician who has ever jeopardized a baby’s health with unsanitary kisses,” Kaufman’s sole directing effort stars William Powell as a hilariously dull-witted US senator who has his eyes on the ultimate political prize: the White House. That is, until his scandal-filled personal diary goes missing. Ella Raines costars as a wily, whistle-blowing gal reporter, and keep an eye out for one very special, uncredited cameo during this marvelously silly political satire’s final moments.
