Paul Mazursky in Person!

Saturday, November 4th, 8:00 pm

NEXT STOP, GREENWICH VILLAGE
Paul Mazursky
US 1976
109 min.
35mm

Writer/director Mazursky’s semi-autobiographical portrait of a young actor (Lenny Baker) making his way through the Bohemian landscape of 1950s New York is one of the very best films of the 1970s. In addition to the late Shelley Winters in one of her finest performances (as the hero’s overbearing mother), the cast of mostly then-unknowns includes Ellen Greene, Christopher Walken, Antonio Fargas, Jeff Goldblum, and even, very briefly, Bill Murray in his big-screen debut. After the screening, acclaimed filmmaker Mazursky, whose other triumphs include An Unmarried Woman , Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, and Down and Out in Beverly Hills, will discuss his career in film and answer audience questions. Tickets $10, $8 members and students. Advance tickets available at the Dryden Theatre box office or by clicking on the link below.

The Muppets Take Manhattan

Sunday, December 10th, 2:00 pm

Two screenings: 2:00, 7:00

(Frank Oz, US 1984, 94 min., 35mm)

Kermit, Gonzo, Fozzie, Miss Piggy et al. take their smash college production to The Great White Way. When Broadway success does not come overnight, Kermit takes a job at a friendly greasy spoon, a move that puts him on the path to success. A crowd-pleasing favorite shot on location in New York City, this was the last feature-length vehicle for the classic Muppet characters personally supervised by producer Jim Henson. Fresh popcorn, candy and soft drinks will be on sale in the lobby.

The Muppet Movie

Sunday, November 26th, 2:00 pm

The Muppet Movie

Two screenings: 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.

James Frawley
US 1979
94 min.
35mm

Compelled to leave his swamp to pursue a dream of stardom, Kermit the Frog makes a long and funny journey to Hollywood. Along the way, Kermit makes friends with Fozzie Bear and The Great Gonzo and finds love in the arms of Miss Piggy, all while eluding evil frog-leg restaurateur Doc Hopper (Charles Durning). In their first feature-length outing, Jim Henson’s beloved creations are brought vividly, magically to life. The amazing supporting cast of cameo performers features Bob Hope, Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, Orson Welles, and Mel Brooks, and the song score by Paul Williams includes “The Rainbow Connection” and “Movin’ Right Along.”

The Dark Crystal

Sunday, December 17th, 7:00 pm

The Dark Crystal

THE DARK CRYSTAL
(Jim Henson and Frank Oz, UK 1982, 94 min., 35mm).

Jen, a Gelfling, begins a heroic journey to restore a missing shard to the Dark Crystal. If he fails, the evil Skekses will control the universe. Leaving Kermit and Co. behind, the film marks a collaboration with famed illustrator and conceptual designer Brian Froud. Henson, Oz, and their Muppet crew have created a thoroughly convincing new universe that pays homage to J.R.R. Tolkien, the Brothers Grimm, and Joseph Campbell. Fresh popcorn, candy and soft drinks will be on sale in the lobby.
